The Team

I am a research associate at the Synthetic and Systems Biology Unit of Biological Research Centre (Hungarian Academy of Sciences) (www.brc.hu/sysbiol) and also an MSc student in biology at the University of Szeged (Hungary). Here, we are mapping the underlying mechanisms of cellular organization and microbial evolution by utilizing the technological advances offered by the rapidly expanding field of synthetic and systems biology. My work targets the connection between the complementary disciplines of systems, synthetic and evolutionary biology; therefore I am focusing on strategies for high-throughput mutagenesis, genome and metabolic engineering to support in-depth investigation on aforementioned fields.

The Team

Reka Fabian

I’m 16 years old. This competition is excellent because it gives a chance to the youth to experience researching. I want to be a pathologist. I would like to study in my city, Szeged. I recommend GMO because it gives many opportunities to humans.

Petra Varga

I’m 16 years old. I am interested in medical research and I think if the project succeeds, it will be helpful for many sick people. I’m participating in iGEM because there are some practical parts and it needs great amount of creativity. I’d like to study in Cambridge or somewhere in Germany. I support GMO because it can unburden many people’s work.

Miklos Boldogkoi

I’m 16 years old. I’m participating in iGEM because I’m interested in researching, primarily with molecular biology, so I’d like to continue my studies in Cambridge or Imperial College London. I approve GMO because I think that drugs could be produced more effectively by genetically modified bacteria. GMO plants have a higher crop yield and are not as harmful to the environment as plants treated with different pesticides.

Martin Papos

I’m 17 years old. I’m interested in medical sciences so I’d like to become a doctor and I’ll study in Hungary or in Scotland. I support GMO because it is possible to find out therapies for diseases which haven’t got a cure. I find pleasure in working with so many intelligent people because we learn a lot from each other, thus our progression is better.

Gergo Nikolenyi

I’m 16 years old. I’m participating in iGEM because I’d like to deal with this area. To achieve this I would like to study abroad (for example England). The project allows me to gain a variety of information about researches. I recommend GMO because it gives methods which are naturally unachievable such as more efficient production or simplified solutions of global problems.

Mark Harangozo

I’m 16 years old. I would like to be a heart surgeon, I want to study in Hungary. I suggest GMO because it is an alternative solution for a lot of illnesses and it is useful in agriculture too. It is a wonderful experience working in this group. I find our project interesting and cool; I hope we will be able to help millions of people all over the world in the future.

Akos Marton

I’m 17 years old. I see a great possibility in this project. I want to be a doctor, to achieve this I would like to study in Germany, in England or in Hungary. I’m convinced that GMO will play an important role in the future as therapy: it could be the cure for many diseases. I think, this competition is interesting because the young, great minds all over the world, the scientists of the future, make the repertory of solutions for the global problems richer with their ideas.

Andras Volford

I am 18 years old. I play the role of the mathematician in our team. I’m interested in researching new methods in different scientific fields, so I want to learn in Cambridge and I’d like to become a chemist. In my opinion this project is a great opportunity to discover something new, which could be useful for the society.
