Pathogenesis of Acne

Acne Vulgaris occurs due to several factors. Comedogenesis is the obstruction of sebaceous follicles due to greater cohesiveness of the follicular epithelial cells. Another factor, excessive sebum production is caused by androgenic stimulation of sebaceous glands. A third factor is the number of Propionibacterium acnes. P acnes produces substances which exacerbate inflammation. Inflammation as a result of P Acnes proliferation can extend into the dermis and result in paules, pustules, and arid nodules.
