Basic Research

The work of the Basic Research Committee formed the backbone of the research of the project. We researched potential VOCs, or volatile organic compounds, that would be present in the exhaled breaths of people with lung cancer. We also researched genes that would be indicators of the presence of these VOCs. As of now, we are using the VOCs ethanol, formaldehyde, and xylene.
