Through our mistakes and failures, we eventually achieved the results we hoped for and are extremely proud of our hard work</del>. The labs also helped me gain an understanding of how bacterial gene regulation differs from eukaryotic gene regulation, and how the products of gene expression can in turn affect regulation. It’s interesting how many of the sciences come together in biology; chemistry is essential for understanding the molecular properties of a system, while physics is essential for understanding energy, the fundamental laws governing existential things, and building the tools used in biological research. Math and computers are also extensively used to model systems and perform calculations. Biology integrates all of these fields and applies that knowledge to understand the implications for a living system. I find this level of collaboration fascinating, and it’s something I want to explore in the future. Even though I still have much to learn, iGEM has exposed me to new topics that I wouldn’t have explored before. I really enjoyed the labs we performed, especially the pGLO lab, because it helped me realize that research requires much patience and meticulous planning. Through our mistakes and failures, we eventually achieved the results we hoped for and are extremely proud of our hard work. The labs also helped me gain an understanding of how bacterial gene regulation differs from eukaryotic gene regulation, and how the products of gene expression can in turn affect regulation. I think it’s interesting how many of the sciences come together in biology; chemistry is essential for understanding the molecular properties of a system, while physics is essential for understanding energy, the fundamental laws governing existential things, and building the tools used in biological research. Math and computers are also extensively used to model systems and perform calculations. Biology integrates all of these fields and applies that knowledge to understand the implications for a living system. I find this level of collaboration fascinating, and it’s something I want to explore in the future. I have iGEM to thank for opening my eyes."</ins></div></td></tr>
