::In the Montgomery School district, there is very prominent emphasis on the importance of STEM education, but this emphasis generally manifests itself in the form of engineering clubs and extracurriculars. Montgomery is known for its Robotics and Science Olympiad teams, but neither of which provide students with scientific laboratory experience. In addition to our interest in biology and the strikingly innovative field of synthetic biology, this lack of outlet became the impetus for creating this team. We strive to allow students to further their interests in the field of scientific research. This program at our school facilitates the process of creating the next generation of doctors, biomedical engineers and innovators in science. With the introduction of iGEM into Montgomery's extracurricular community, the possibility of achieving these goals is greatly increased.

::Our club stemmed from a desire to provide students with hands-on laboratory experience. While STEM education is strong at Montgomery Township School District and popular clubs such as Robotics and Science Olympiad provide great opportunities for students to explore and learn about new fields of science and engineering, and apply that knowledge to real world developments, students did not have the opportunity to experience laboratory research. We created this team to provide students a firsthand look into the strikingly innovative field of synthetic biology and an opportunity to innovate. We strive to further student interest in science and expose them to fields that they might not have explored otherwise. Motivated by the lack of outlets for students to explore their passions for biological research, students from Montgomery High School created their own iGEM team in the 2013-2014 academic year to gain firsthand experience in scientific research. While the beginning of the season presented numerous obstacles, Montgomery iGEM has developed into a club with over 30 active members who are all motivated by the endless possibilities that scientific innovation presents.

Our club stemmed from a desire to provide students with hands-on laboratory experience. Our iGEM program is creating the next generation of doctors, biomedical engineers and innovators, a generation with a genuine desire to help make the world a better place.
