Safety

Safety is an important process while doing laboratory work in order to stop cross-contamination, and keep the safety of our team members and others:.

In the 3A Assembly

Before each session, we had to clear our workspace so that no other eqipment could interfere with our labortatory. Then, we washed down the work space with ethanol. Also, specific measure had to be taken so that the bacteria, and other laboratory substances do not escape into the environment. This includes properly disposing of pipette tips after every unique use to prevent cross-contamination and waste issues. Also, members of our laboratory had to wear surgical gloves when transferring materials such as E. coli to agar plates, or when touching such substances directly, such as sterile glass beads.

In the Project lab

At the time of the project, we will have specific safety protocols. This includes having a maximum of 5 people in our small lab space at a given time, a specific period at the end of each session to record what we did and to recognize what we'll have to do next, and a proper disposal protocol (such as discarding pipette tips, cleansing the wrokspace, and washing hands).
