iGEM organization is famous for its open spirit. As its worldwide expanding influence, iGEM competition attracts more and more teams among high schools and colleges around the world. Teams in the same or different regions usually have strong demands for communication. Restricted by language barrier, the lack of communication platform and so on, such demands cannot always be satisfied.

Several communication approaches exist. The iGEM jamboree and the Online Forum set up by organizer both provide good chance for teams to communicate. It would be better if they can help improve communication after competition. Meanwhile, long existing public social networks, such as Facebook and Google+, cannot ameliorate the situation while the iGEMers scatter. In a word, a unified and efficient communication platform for iGEMers is in great need.

We are aiming to develop an online communication platform. On this platform iGEMers from different countries, different teams can make acquaintance with each other. They can share knowledge, experiences, information, skills, and expertise; they can help each other during the competition; they can also keep in touch and have long-last friendship even after the competition. Not only team members of the year could join the community, but also former iGEMers and the public could take part in and know more about synthetic biology, which in turn bring greater effect of iGEM competition.
