Team
Hello, everyone, this is the team from Beijing, Haidian Foreign Language School. Our team contains 16 students who is in different ages, having different dreams, different characters and different goals. But we get together for that we all love one thing—IGEM. In contemporary society, the human race is advancing at an unprecedented rate in the genetic engineering, it is really meaningful for our teenagers who are interesting in this part to participate this kind of competition to prove ourselves, to make friends who have the same interests as us. Our school participated this competition last year and finally we won an award in this competition because of our hard work. Also, we have our dear teacher Sofia, a patient and knowledgeable person, she taught us a lot of things. At first, none of our team member had the professional knowledge about this competition and no one knew more about genetic engineering, everything is new for everyone. we all have the passion to concentrate on this competition, our school deeply supported us, we had a lot of resources to come up with a great number of special, individual ideas so we can choose the best one to show it to the world. Everyone in our team has their own clear job which is depends on your interests and your characters, as it did in the case of Annie, the girl is good at editing texts, her job in our team was taking photos and compile the materials. Every single person is a part of our team and we always work together to solve problems, share ideas, and make decisions and so on. We don’t really care about whether we can win an award like the team before, we will always have the passion to enjoy this competition and do something that is meaningful for all over the world. Hello!I majored in molecular biology and recieved a Doctorate degree from The Institute of Botany, the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and published a paper about UV radiation-responsive proteins in rice Leaves by proteomic analysis in the academic journal: "Plant Cell and Physiology". The iGEM competition is interesting for me and my students. The process of preparing for the competition was hard, but fun, and exciting for us. It improved the ability of our students and promoted friendship between them.
Team idea
During the early development of the project, nearly everyone on our team came up with multiple ideas about synthetic biology. Many of them were devoted to the improvement or protection of the environment. Others focused on detection and induction.

My idea: Absorb smog masks.
These masks can absorb heavy metals in the air masks. Since Beijing has smog. Smog containing heavy metal elements (Hg). This mask can effectively absorb the smog of heavy metals.

My idea: Aviod human snoring
I find that some teenager is score more often than an adult.So i always want to design an installation is like a mask which can let people know they are in grievous. When people are snoring at a high decibel, this installation will put out a smell that can wake up people who are snoring.Inside the installation,there are many cells that when it reveices the sound,it will produce the smell. At this moment people will know that they should change another way to sleep, in this approach, people can aviod from being killed during they are snoring.

According to the phenomena in our life that haze brings lots of trouble such like diseases and traffic accidents. So I suppose that I can use a kind of phagocytic cell and adaptation its express make it gobble up oxides of sculpture and nitrogen even some heavy metal. In severe cases, we can release this cell from the air by helicopter to improve our air. You can install this cell in cars or factories’ exhaust too. When the volcano erupted it can also absorb the small particles, make everyone live under a bright blue sky.

Due to the population growth, people had to use artificial ways to produce food, such as fertilizer, etc. Fertilizer can promote the growth of plants, crops, but at the same time have an impact on their health, the food people eat may also be affected,such as chloride ions, they accumulate in crops, when they go into human fat cells, it is difficult to discharge. They can cause respiratory tract Burns, edema, subsequently cause lung and heart crock up. So I wanted to study a kind of cells which can promote plant growth in a physical way rather than a chemical used as fertilizer. Through the synthesis of a cell and implanting the cells of plants, so that these cells can help absorb light, absorbs carbon dioxide, and role. So we can use a physical way to promote plant growth.

Detecting heavy metal
Make a kind of bacteria that can detect heavy metal element in the rice. Such as: if arsenic meet a kind of bacteria, it will turn blue, if mercury meet another kind of bacteria, it will turn red.
Anti-skidding
Making a kind of bacteria that can anti-skidding. It can application on bathroom anti-skidding.
Detecting or anti plaque bacteria
Some traditional braces can not take it off, it’s hard to brush your teeth, it’s easy to breed plaque bacteria. Make a kind of plaque bacteria that can stain or kill it when meet it.

I am Annie Niu Wanxing which is a 16-year-old student in Beijing. Some people said that Arians are expected to be courageous leaders but troublesome followers, but I don’t think so. I believe that I can be a good leader and I also can be an eligible member too. Although I’m not the best one, I will try my best to upgrade myself. As my dream, I want to be a journalist or a doctor or a judge in the future. It seems like three different ideals, but in my opinion, they are the same ones because they can make people live in a better life. I hope to be able to achieve my dream.
My Idea:Radiation-proof membrane
These days, more and more people work together with computer, Ipad and many different kinds of electronic tools. But inside your useful tools are various distinct kind radiations. When the radiations go into your eyes, you would feel uncomfortable because eyes are described in the microwave, and have strong microwave absorption properties; absorb microwave energy into heat energy when the microwave power increases to a certain limit. Eyes will be compromised. Minor damage, eye fatigue, dry medium destroy the eye lens opacities, decreased vision; serious damage to eyes, crystal changes leads to cataracts, vision disappeared, and blindness. So my is mainly about putting one kind of cell to the membrane which can be placed on the screen of the computer or television. So that it can decrease the radiation for people with eyes.I hope our project can help more and more people have healthier body. And I with my teammates would enjoy this competition!

EMR-resistive Generator
During consumption of some electronic facilities, such as TV, computer and mobiles, different wave length and frequency of electronic magnetic radiation (EMR) are emitted. EMR has strong penetration, gradually invades human’s body, and embarks different kind of diseases. Melittin is the principal active component of apitoxin (bee venom), consisting of 26 amino acids with the sequence GIGAVLKVLTTGLPALISWIKRKRQQ. Some studies showed that melittin was resistive to EMR. We are going to construct the bacteria that can produce melittin.
The Effec of Radiation
The eye is a complex organ, composed of many different structures with varying sensitivity to the effects of radiation. An easy way to look at the eye is to divide it into zones that can be examined with respect to their susceptibility to radiation effects. It is also noteworthy that the effects of radiation on the eye not only depend on the sensitivity of the tissue itself but also on the mode of radiation delivery.
